Roman Art is an architectural style both representative and decorative. It dates back from the 9th century, around year 1000, when Christianity was thriving after years of upheaval. This art continued to flourish until the 11th century. It is marked by architecture, which is monumental yet adorned with intricate details (sculptures and paintings).

A number of currents have influenced Roman art: Carolingian, antique, Byzantine, oriental and Celtic.

From the second half of the 11^th century, Roman Art reached France and spreads throughout the land, notably from the Abbatiale de Cluny (Cluny Abbey).
