Vasarely Foundation in Aix-en-Provence

Located on the west of the city of Aix-en-Provence, on the hill of Jas de Bouffan where the aura of Paul Cézanne is strong, the building of the Vasarely Foundation is a work of art in itself.
Inaugurated in 1976 and classified as a the French historical monument in 2013, the Architectural Center, designed by artist Victor Vasarely at the origin of optical art, houses 44 monumental "integrations" in 7 permanent exhibition halls.

The collections reflect a panorama of the research of the masters of the Op'Art, and you will enter in the heart of the fascinating world of optical art, illusion of movement and research into the behaviour of light.

The visionary artist Victor Vasarely wanted an "independent foundation from merchants, administration, financial and political parties."

By creating his foundation he wants to pave the way to an art accessible to as many people as possibile and to a city that combines art and architecture.

Temporary exhibitions, concerts, lectures and cultural mediation activities take place during the year at the Foundation.
