Arras Belfry

Symbol of the city, located on the Place des Héros of Arras, in the Nord-Pas de Calais, Arras Belfry dominates the city from a height of 77 meters.

Recognized French Historical Monument in 1840, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005, together with 23 towers of Nord Pas de Calais and the Somme.

Built between the fourteenth and fifteenth century in the Gothic style, its rich architectural and the one of Place des Héros are witnesses of the time when Arras was one of the richest cities of tapestry of northern France.

The bell tower was destroyed and rebuilt twice in the same way, after the bombings of World War One. It’s possible to admire the original gold lion overlooking the tower at the Museum of Fine Arts in Arras.
